Teseo Tesei former barracks

A digital approach for a historical landmark

The Teseo Tesei Barracks is located within the La Spezia Maritime Military Arsenal. The building dates back to 1939 and was built as an accommodation facility for Officers, while housing dedicated storage and technical rooms. The original structure features masonry with reinforced concrete horizons. However, around 1947, following bombing during World War II, several consolidation works were carried out, restoring a new mixed masonry/reinforced concrete bearing structure to the complex.

Politecna’s intervention concerns the adaptation and redevelopment of the complex, developed on two floors above ground, with a total area of 3,564 square meters. Respecting the historical evidence represented also by the material variations over time, the procedures for the evaluation of the seismic safety of the Barracks included, in the first instance, the realization of a historical-critical analysis of the structure. Having defined the construction characteristics, thanks to an integrated analysis with BIM methodology, it was possible to analyze and digitally reconstruct the complex through geometric survey and laser scanner.
