Politecna launches the redevelopment project of the former Randaccio Barracks in Brescia (IT)

2 January 2024

Following the awarding of the tender called by the Italian Agenzia del Demanio, Politecna Europa and SAB are glad to launch the redevelopment project of the former Randaccio Barracks in Brescia, set to house the new local headquarters of the Italian Agenzia delle Entrate!

The restoration and re-functionalization of the two historic volumes will host the new offices, while a new building will house the front office and archive functions.

Our proposal was awarded for its attention to the relationship between ancient and contemporary, which turns into a recognizable and harmonious architectural language, combining the values of preservation and innovation.

The new volume, characterized by innovative, recyclable and modular elements, stands out as an organic injection capable of enhancing the original fronts of the architectural organism. The new photovoltaic glass skin, which can be easily disassembled, does not affect the historic structure, and the newly crafted gables serve as a frame for the 19th-century-style facades.

LEED Gold for the Le Scotte University Complex project in Siena

7 June 2023

Politecna’s project for the new university center of the Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital in Siena, the largest in the province and among the largest in the region, concludes the Design Final Review in order to obtain the Leed® BD+C Certification: New Gold level construction. It is one of the highest levels set by the international certification system developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), which qualifies and classifies the eco-sustainability of buildings.

Among the most important elements in the evaluation of the Politecna project, the interdisciplinary approach adopted in an integrative process, which made it possible to meet ambitious requirements, such as attention to the density and diversity of uses, the sustainable development of the site, the optimization of energy efficiency, indoor water saving, comfort and environmental quality.

Located on the crest of the Scotte hill, north of the city of Siena, the new university structure of about 9,000 square meters will host the academic community for a total of about 1,700 people. It consists of four blocks, connected to each other by an agora, the heart of the space and its symbolic value for the university and scientific community. Externally, the blocks are connected by paths created in harmony with the hilly landscape and integrated from a visual and functional point of view through green and practicable roofs. The new university center boasts a sustainable building with very high technological performance, capable of responding to changing educational contexts thanks to modular, flexible and functional environments, some of which will be usable throughout the day.
