Opening in 2019 in the city of Laguna, 55 kilometers from Fortaleza, the capital of the Brazilian state of Ceará, the project represents the world’s first accessible smart city. The entire development integrates more than 50 smart solutions aimed at improving the lives of its approximately 23,000 residents and fostering a safe, sustainable, and comfortable living experience for a total of 800 housing units.
The development is near the port of Pecém, a strategic industrial area for the region, currently among the fastest growing in Brazil, therefore with a pressing need for housing with high standards, but at the same time affordable for the majority of the population.

The innovative approach adopted includes the construction of common spaces, from outdoor fitness areas, libraries and the Innovation Hub. Services are interconnected and enabled by Planet App, which allows residents to control appliances, book common spaces and communicate with each other, adding value to common areas. Smart City Laguna features 620,000 square meters of manicured green spaces, wide boulevards and bike paths throughout the complex. It also demonstrates ways in which innovative design contribute to the fight against the global housing crisis, providing a model for further affordable housing developments around the world.
